Saludos,
Hi all
This is to show you an idea I had in order to protect garmin's delicated (i think) power connector that I have installed permanently in my F650Dakar.
In order to protect my garmin from possible voltage oscillations, I made a voltage stabilizer circuit to connect garmin's fused power cable directly to the battery.
Once I did it, some times I ride with GPS other not... when doing with GPS, no problem, the connector is connected :-D and it is safe (for the time being). But... when I ride without, that nice 9-way connector is just moving aroud without protection; first idea: just a plastic bag and PVC stripe and that's it; after first rain, the bag full of water and plenty of humidity inside, no good idea.
Than I developed this idea: to use the old photo films plastic can (that is perfectly waterproof) in order to protect my connector.
Materials:
1- 1 set can+cap
2- 1 cap alone
3- foam rubber adhesive profile, i.e. 10x4 mm
4- 1 cable plastic strap
5- 1 screw/self locking nut
Steps:
1- drill a hole in the can cap enough to pass through it the connector
2- put the foam rubber at approx 40-50 mm from the end, making a kind of grommet
3- insert 50%-50% this grommet in the hole (watch side of the cap - close area to the connector)
4- put a cable plastic strap in the outside of the grommet
5- Fix the loose can cap any part in your brackets, so that it is for fitting the can when connector is in use.
